Nurses Week: Meet Lori W.

Nurse Week: Meet Lori W.

As part of Nurses Week, we’re getting to know the people behind the care at Quincy Medical Group. Today, we’re introducing you to Lori W.

What’s your role at QMG?

I am an office nurse at the Ambulatory Care Center.

What inspired you to become a nurse?

I think it must have been in my blood. My grandmother was a nurse and my mother was a nurse. Being a nurse is the only thing I ever wanted to be.

What do you enjoy most about being a nurse?

I enjoy talking with and taking care of patients. I also enjoy working with my co-workers and providers. I usually learn something new every day, even though I have been in nursing for more than 30 years.

What advice would you give someone just starting out in nursing?

Remember the person you are taking care of is someone’s mother, father, daughter, son, or sibling — treat them like they are your family. Also, never be afraid to ask questions. Even after all these years, I still have questions.

What are you most proud of in your career so far?

I don’t think I can pinpoint one thing. I am proud to be able to take care of patients.

Quick Take

Coffee, tea, or something else to get you through the day?

It used to be Coke Zero, but I recently switched to unsweet tea.

What’s your go-to snack during a shift?

Whatever chocolate is in the chocolate drawer.

What role do you usually play on your team?

I would say the calm one, but my co-workers may say otherwise.
