Man Up 2025: Putting Men’s Health First

Join us Saturday, September 6, from 10 am to 12:30 pm at South Park in Quincy for the 5th annual Man Up event hosted by Quincy Medical Group. This free event welcomes men of all ages to enjoy food, fun, friends, and fellowship — and most importantly, make the most of free health screenings.

Among the providers you’ll meet is Ted, Director of Cardiac Services at QMG. Ted has been part of Man Up since the very beginning and is returning for his fifth year. He’ll once again be on-site offering free EKG tests while also connecting with men in the community about their health.

We asked Ted to share why this event is so meaningful to him and why he encourages men to take advantage of the opportunity.

You’ve been part of the Man Up event since the beginning. Why is it important for you to be involved?

It’s important to me to be involved in the Man Up” event every year, because as a father, and an active member in the community. I feel it is my responsibility to set a good example for my children and others to follow. I hear so many times throughout the community someone should do that”. My personal answer to that is, be that someone”.

Each year, you’re on-site performing EKGs. Can you explain what this test helps detect and why it’s important?

EKG’s are a quick and easy first step to diagnosing heart disease. Many progressive heart conditions can go undiagnosed for many years due to there being no physical symptoms in the early stages. An EKG is a noninvasive test, that can give you and your doctor a snapshot of your current heart health. Helping to manage current, and even plan for future cardiac needs.

What’s one thing you wish more men understood about their heart health?

Heart health is vital to living an active life. As men, we tend to get busy with life and ignore our health, (I’ve done it myself). We feel fine, so we just go about our lives. Heart disease can be sneaky,

No signs or symptoms until something major, like a heart attack happens. Take the time to prioritize your heart health. Exercise, make good food choices, and see a doctor yearly. The Man Up event is a great opportunity to get that ball rolling and start your journey to a better, healthier life.

What would you say to a man who feels hesitant or nervous about coming to Man Up?

Don’t be! The Man Up event is a relaxed environment where you can come meet other like minded men in the community also wanting to better themselves and their personal health.

All the staff is there to help you get started on your journey to better health.

What do you hope men take away from this experience — not just in terms of test results, but in how they think about and prioritize their health going forward?

I hope that men, take away not only test results, but also knowledge, and growth. I hope to see men have the confidence and conviction to take charge of their lives and their health.

My challenge to the men of the Quincy area is to come out and do this for not only yourself, but for your family, your partner , your children, and all those who love you.

It’s time to Man Up”, and take control of your health and future!
